General Information

Student Leader: Jolya Sabry, Bachir Khoukhi (Co-Presidents)

Advisor: Mrs. Sundoes Elbery

Established: 2024

Purpose: Through a combination of artistic and educational platforms, such as cultural events, blog/podcast series, and charity fundraising, the club aims to promote a greater understanding of diversity among Arab Americans and across the MENA region. The club will also function as a community and resource for aspiring writers, journalists, and anyone else interested in the dynamic role of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in international politics, art, and more by emphasizing real stories, cultural insights, and current challenges!

Educational Outreach: ****In an effort to educate and include our school community in intriguing activities/discussions, the club will offer information about MENA cultures, politics, arts, and diaspora experiences through meetings, (as well as launching a podcast and blog series eventually).

Career Development: ****The club will provide opportunities for students interested in Middle Eastern studies, writing, or journalism to improve their research, writing, and analytical skills that are applicable to their academic and professional goals (especially when working on the blog series)

Cultural Exchange: ****To encourage students to have a broader understanding of and connection with other cultures, we plan on hosting an annual MENA/Arab American Culture Celebration that highlights the region's rich creative traditions in dance, music, and visual arts (Its actually beginning this year during Arab Heritage Month, in April, with the efforts of a few students, but it will primarily be hosted by the MENA Culture Club in the future, if approved.)

Target Membership: ****Although the club's main audience is students interested in MENA cultures and journalism, anybody interested in learning more about any specific topics from this geographical region in our school community is welcome, regardless of background. We want to effectively create a welcoming and educational environment that celebrates different viewpoints and welcomes involvement from any student who wants to help further MENA Club's goals!
